Follow The Glow – Look East Young Photo Student (and old)

Many photographers love to chase sunsets, yes, I’m among them. But there’s always something else to chase too.

Look the other way – Follow the glow.

During a sunset, especially early sunset, look to the East to see what’s lighting up. Around my neck of the woods in the Pacific NW, that includes the Cascade Mountains, Mt Baker and several marinas, which house many interesting boats.

Walk around your neck of the woods, look East. What do you see? Buildings, mountains, forests, lakes? Study areas of interest so you’ll know ahead of time where some potential Sunset Glow photography sites could exist. Even wheat fields are great. And, the other most important rule that trumps everything else you’ll learn – Always have your camera with you!

I’m always looking at the glow. Sunset is to the back of my house, so I see the glow on everything in the front of my house – the other houses, the trees, the kids. It really is just gorgeous. Love the glow on the boat in the water, so pretty!
